The CRY Cardiac Screening Event held at Hesketh Park on Sunday 11 May was a tremendous success with 104 screenings carried out during the day.
Congratulations to Phil Alger who organised the whole event and ensure all screening were fully utilised.
Many thanks to Member of Parliament Jim Dickson who took time to attend the event and meet members of the club and the medical teams.
Thanks to Keith Hart for attending and everyone who took part on the day and it was a real credit to our club to host such an important event for our community.
After 8 long months of ground work on our outfield the fencing is finally down and we can now use it for our matches and training!
There are still areas that need additional work but this will be managed by our own ground staff.
Please keep off them as much as possible to allow the grass to germinate and grown in these areas.
The funeral service for Kath Cullingham is at Green Acres Kemnal Park Cemetery & Ceremonial Park on Friday 27th June 2025 at 11am
Following the service, The Family Welcome people to join them in Celebrating Kath’s life at Dartford Cricket Club, Pilgrims Way, Dartford.
The Club is saddened by the news that Kath Cullingham has passed away at the age of eighty-eight.
Kath was the wife of our much missed former umpire and president Mike, the mother of former players Dave and John, and the grandmother of Georgia, James, Harry and Alex (the latter two current first team players).
Kath and Mike were regulars at Hesketh Park for many years until they both suffered from recent ill health. Kath, in particular, ran the bar facilities at the old Hesketh Park pavilion with such wonderful aplomb and attention to detail. Everybody knew where they stood with Kath, but that was just part of her character and something that we all came to love and admire about Kath.
Funeral details will follow in due course. In the meantime please join with me in extending sincere condolences to the whole Cullingham family.

Chairman
At Sunday’s AGM we were delighted to bestow the following in recognition of their dedicated service and support of Dartford Cricket Club:
NIGEL KNAPP becomes a Vice President in addition to his Life Membership. For those who do not know Nigel that well, he was a long standing regular and opening bowler of the First XI during the 1990’s and 2000’s prior to moving to Australia. An expert in computer technology, Nigel was instrumental in establishing the core backbone infrastructure of our club website which he has continued to support remotely from Australia. This has taken greater significance in recent months with the reconstruction of the website that has taken place and, again, Nigel has worked tirelessly in support of Surge and the team. The Club is very appreciative of such commitment.
DAN SUPPLE becomes a Life Member. Dan first joined Dartford Cricket Club over twenty years ago starting in the junior section. Since that time Dan has played for many years at a variety of senior levels and was recently Captain and wicketkeeper of the 2nd XI for a few years until he stepped down from that post at the end of the 2023 season. Dan was a regular throughout the 2024 season playing some of his best cricket as a wicketkeeper which, in turn, went a long way to seeing the 2nd XI promoted as champions! Although Dan announced his “retirement” from the game at the end of season he continues to serve and make a positive contribution to ManCo.
Please join us in congratulating both Nigel and Dan on the well deserved recognition of their involvement in our Club.

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s) / Sportspeople
CRY CARDIAC TESTING AT DARTFORD CRICKET CLUB Sunday 11th May 2025
I am writing to spread the word regarding the cardiac screening programme for young people aged 14 – 35 that is being hosted by Dartford Cricket Club, at Hesketh Park, Dartford, on Sunday 11th May 2025. This screening is partly sponsored by The Ben Daniels Memorial Fund www.bendanielsmemorialfund.com
Young people who participate in sports are likely to put more stress on their hearts than those who are not active participants. But if they should happen to have any underlying cardiac abnormalities, they are more likely to be at risk. It is important to stress that exercise is NOT a bad thing, and that participation in sport of itself does not lead to cardiac arrest. But it can sometimes be the trigger which sets off and exacerbates a previously undetected heart condition, leading in the very worst-case scenarios to the death of a young person. Screening therefore is extremely important because of the following:
At a screening, the young person undergoing the procedure, will be tested via an electro-cardiogram (ECG), that examines the electrical activity of the heart, and if deemed necessary, an echocardiogram (ECHO), and a physical examination. It is a non-invasive procedure that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete and is performed by qualified cardiac physiologists. Our expert mobile screening team regularly screens, amongst others, the England Cricket, Football, Hockey and Rugby national teams.
The ECG results will be examined in the first part of the screening, and some individuals will be required to undertake a follow-up echocardiogram (ECHO). This is an ultrasound scan of the heart that looks at its size, structure and blood flow. All results suggesting any abnormality will then be sent to CRY’s consultant cardiologist Professor Sanjay Sharma, a leading expert on inherited cardiac conditions.
The screening clinic will be held at Dartford Cricket Club, from 9am to 4pm and appointments are in 10-minute bookable time slots.
If you would like to be tested or have your son/daughter tested for their cardiac health, please contact Phil Alger from Dartford CC as below.

Please note that screening appointments are on a first come first served basis. Those applying for screening must be at least 14 years of age, or 35 years of age or under, on the day of screening.

Join us for a special day of remembrance at Dartford Cricket Club.

Tickets are just £25pp – Here’s what’s lined up:
12:00 PM – A 2 course cold-fork buffet celebrating Michael’s life and contributions to the club
2:30 PM – Watch the President’s XI take on the Cullingham XI in a 35-over match
There will also be a raffle with great prizes raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and an afternoon BBQ.
It’s set to be a brilliant day remembering a true legend of the club. Don’t miss it!
We’re thrilled to announce the installation of the SIS grass hybrid brand-new pitch at Hesketh Park — a fantastic upgrade that will benefit players of all levels for years to come.
This amazing addition has been made possible thanks to a generous bequest from former club secretary, prolific Kent League batsman, 1XI Captain and club stalwart Paul Stanford. Paul’s passion for cricket and his commitment to the club live on through this lasting legacy, and we are deeply grateful for the support of the Stanfords.
Grounds co-ordinator Neil Wilson commented – “The club will be forever indebted to Paul for providing the funding for this exciting extension to our facilities, which will further enhance the playing opportunities for club members of all ages. As one of few clubs to offer the facility in the Kent League, we’re very excited to see the potential of the wicket unfold over the coming season”.
Here’s to a new chapter at Dartford CC —and a pitch worthy of the passion we bring to every match.
