Hughesie 4th team skipper talks to us...

The new featured player of the week in “Talk to me” is…

Peter Hughes!

Nickname - Hughsie… Lazarus!

How long have you played at the DCC - Joined April 1974.

Best Game played in - Winning the Kent League 2nd XI title at Gravesend… Sept 1981… chased just over 100… got them for 8!..Roy Hunt skipper.

Funniest DCC moment off the pitch - On our ‘Dad’s Army’ tour of Somereset… Cully (He’d had a few) goes in the gents, does what he needs to do, washes his hands, then stands under the condom machine to dry them!

Funniest cricketing moment - Lots and lots… seeing Trevor Campbell, our Ausie off spinner from the 80’s bowling bouncers at a batter after having a catch turned down by batters Dad at Holmesdale… seeing Tony Hirsch fielding on tour… fielding at square leg at Waller as a motor bike flashes past across the wicket and up the bank at the far side!

Best Trainer - has to be the Colonel, Graham Tappin, never knows when to give in.

Worst trainer - Neil Spurgeon… but made up for it with stacks of wickets.

The Joker - Jay Dassrath… great fielder… could write a book on the ‘Art of Sledging’

Favourite all time cricketer - Fred Trueman.

Favourite DCC song - Pass!

Top DCC Score - 108 v Farningham in the distant past.

Best Figures for the DCC - 7-35 v Mote for Sunday 1st XI, bowled in tandem with Graham Dilley. Derek Ufton was skipper and a young Malcolm Stroudley got the runs!

Favourite Grounds - The Mote and Farningham.

Disliked Grounds - Folkestone and Broadstairs.

Who is your DCC hero/inspiration - As I don’t get to see many of the current DCC stars… I’ll go for a past legend… Don Wykes… made the art of slow bowling look so simple…. was a great club man… would play in any XI… anywhere… in his prime would have graced any Kent League side… and bar profits have never been the same since he sadly passed on.
