Darts too strong for Halstow
High Halstow 1st XI vs Dartford CC 1st XI scorecard
With the rain ruining the first game of the season Dartford put in a strong performance to take all 20 points away to High Halstow. After winning the toss and electing to bat Dartford amassed 264-9 from their allocated 50 overs. Captain Garry Cook top scored with 85 and was supported by good partnerships throughout the innings enabling Dartford to set a formidable total. In their reply Halstow lost an early wicket but managed to push on to reach 70/1 after the first 15 overs. Adam Clarke then took 2 wickets in quick succession and after this Halstow never looked like threatening the Dartford score. Spinner Ross Allen came on and took 3 further wickets before paceman Brinn Osland ran through the middle order to claim 4-68. Sam Jewiss then returned to take the final wicket with 7 overs remaining to bowl Halstow out for 180 and wrap up a win by 84 runs. Cookie
100% record for the Darts!
Dartford CC 2nd XI vs Beckenham 2nd XI scorecard
After losing the toss I was pleasantly surprised when Beckenham decided to bat first. After the initial few over’s Beckenham were in command at 36 – 0 off 9 and looking solid. But then with wickets falling in consecutive over’s, and the opening bowlers Craig Partridge & Lee Gray with their tails up and bowling in great areas and two new batsmen at the crease the run rate soon dried up.
With the openers earning a deserved rest with 20 over’s bowled, it was time for our change bowlers to carry on putting the pressure on, with John Cully at one end bowling stupendously well with flight & guile and Scott McMillan taking a wicket early in his spell there was no hiding for Beckenham and quite frankly they were there for the taking. Scott bowling some great cutters with control looked unplayable so his figures reflected with 13 over’s 4 wkts for 29 runs.
So the first half was what the doctor ordered Beckenham all out for 139 in just 46 over’s, so the Darts were set 140 from 54 over’s, on paper looked easy but the game is not played on paper and in my career ive seen may of low run chases messed up!
Today wasn’t the case though, Gregg Dassrath was in on merit to open the batting after his great start to the season. Maybe too over confident after being in such good form played on after trying to cut another 4 off the stumps. But the next partnership won us the game with Sunny carrying on his great form with the bat made 43 and Adam Ferris given a chance to show what he can do by the skipper grabbed his chance with both hands and although a few airshots were played early in Adam’s innings he soon got to grips with the pace of the wicket and hit some lusty blows, finishing with 67 not out.
Darts running out winners by 8 wickets with 25 over’s to spare. With confidence in the camp sky high and the buzz after two victories in two games this for a change is a great feeling. I would suggest though lets keep our feet on the ground put in the hard yards at training and the results will look after themselves although only 2 games out of 18 played a long way is still to go.
Saturday will be a tough game against the Harvel boys so be prepared, focused & ready for battle !! Nosey
