Joe Murphy!

Nickname - Smurf

How long have you played at the DCC - Approx 25 years. Started in the colts when I was 7 so it feels like I’ve had a life sentence with a brief sabbatical at Halls sandwiched in between.

Best Game played in - Yikes so many. The 1 wicket win over Guildford in the Evening Standard stands out for grasping victory from the jaws of defeat. But I’d never be forgiven if I didn’t mention the win over Gore Court in the 2s a few years ago. Me and Cully managed to put on 20 odd for the last wicket to win the game. This was the game where the traditional yes/no calling was replaced with ‘FFS run Cully’ as we scrambled 3 to win at the end!

Funniest DCC moment off the pitch - Gower’s salad cream initiation to the Sunday 1s was amusing for all but me and the rampage in Wakefield in 2008 had its moments before being cut short. But I admit to being most amused many years ago down at Sevenoaks when the band struck up a rendition of The Great Escape as the Vine were flaying us all around the ground. It seemed spookily appropriate at the time!

Funniest cricketing moment - Gower has already alluded to it in his profile but Nosey’s phantom run out at Sevenoaks was pure comedy gold for all who were fortunate enough to witness it. Suffice to say the Vine certainly brings the best out of Nosey!! An honourable mention should also go to Chaffey for getting to the end of his run up in a Sunday game at the Park and running off in the general direction of the playground in pursuit of some kids who had just clumped one of his sons.

Best Trainer - Not me!

Worst trainer - Gower once took me for a colts session when I was 8 years old. He refused to let me keep so I got the hump and stormed home. Jim Lowrie = tough school!!

The Joker - Far too many to single out. The 2s always have a good craic, and there’s so much amusing drivel spoken that it’s difficult to single out a particular person. Perhaps the category should be changed to biggest moaner…now I wonder who that could be??!!

Favourite all time cricketer - Alan Knott

Favourite DCC song - Not strictly a cricket song … but the Grand Old Duke of York certainly adds to the atmos!!

Top DCC Score - 120 something not out. No it didn’t take 5 days and No not all the runs were scored through third man!

Best Figures for the DCC - Thanks to last years inspired internet campaign…1 over..no maidens..no wicket for 2 runs!

Favourite Grounds - T Wells, The Mote, Tring!

Disliked Grounds - Broadstairs, Lordswood

Who is your DCC hero/inspiration - Harry Bright (Snr and Jnr), AP, Earl Gray!
