James Fitzgerald!
Nickname - Fitzy, Dave Hill’s son, Ronny T (before he grew his hair)
How long have you played at the DCC - 8 years since the Halls merger in 2002
Best Game played in - Home to Wye 2004. Arrogant top of the league opponents who thought we were an easy 20 points. Reduced overs game as we had to wait for the ground to dry so we went to the pub, a younger, more slim line Earl then ripped through the top order ending up with 6 wickets, and we bowled them out for 170 and knocked them off for 2 wickets down in 20 over’s. The oppo’s face was a picture!
Funniest DCC moment off the pitch - Too many over the years to mention, including basically the whole of the first Wakefield tour, but in addition last game of the 2007 season when the 4’s had the pleasure of playing our last league game of the season at Royal Hesketh. To see the season off in true DCC style, much alcohol was consumed including dozens of Sambuca shots which my then vice captain Mr Ken Cook decided to knock back like he was on an 18-30’s holiday. The evening resulted with him leaning up against the clubhouse wall in the car park with the quote when Elaine came to pick him up “Elaine, I want to get in the car but I can’t move or see”
Funniest cricketing moment - Probably the whole of the 2006 season when I managed to amass 31 league runs in nine 3rd XI league innings. I must have been doing something right as vice captain though as I didn’t get dropped all year!
Favourite all time cricketer - Mike Atherton
Best Trainer - Seen Lowrie doing laps round Hesketh with one of those water bottles a few times, so I’ll go for him
Worst trainer - Must be Randy as he hasn’t trained hard enough to get a league 50!
The Joker - Paul Gregory – What he lacked in cricket ability he certainly made up for in banter
Favourite DCC song - Find it hard to beat a good rendition of “All the lads and all the lovely ladies”
Top DCC Score - 125* away to Blue Star in 2009
Best Figures for the DCC - 3 for 4 against Shooters Hill in 2008, though I think I’ve had better figures than that in the nets.
Favourite Grounds - Waller Park (like a fine wine, gets betters with age), Hesketh Park, Bickley Park, HSBC
Disliked Grounds - Wilmington, RASRA Eagles, Blackheath City of London and Shooters Hill
Who is your DCC hero/inspiration - Peter Hughes – Bats, bowls and fields better than most people half his age and is a true gent to boot. Only downside, he has a couple too many cricket season holidays for my liking!
